Domain-Driven Design: Tackling Complexity in the Heart of Software is Eric Evans’s foundational work on designing software for complicated business domains. First published in 2003, it is a software design and architecture book rather than a guide to a particular language, framework, or database. Its central claim is that the hardest part of many enterprise systems is not technical infrastructure but building a precise, adaptable understanding of the business domain. Evans proposes that developers and domain experts should repeatedly refine a shared model, then express that model in both conversation and code. The book combines strategic design, which concerns the relationships among large parts of a system and the organizations that maintain them, with tactical design patterns for object-oriented implementation. It explains concepts such as ubiquitous language, bounded contexts, entities, value objects, aggregates, repositories, and anti-corruption layers. Its purpose is to help teams make deliberate modeling choices so that software remains understandable as business rules, organizational structures, and technical systems change.
