Genesis: Artificial Intelligence, Hope, and the Human Spirit is a 2024 work of technology, political thought, and philosophy by Henry A. Kissinger, Eric Schmidt, and Craig Mundie. Published after Kissinger died, it extends their earlier engagement with artificial intelligence by asking how increasingly capable systems could alter knowledge, state power, scientific discovery, education, and human self-understanding. Rather than serving as a technical primer on machine learning, the book treats AI as a civilizational development comparable in consequence to earlier scientific revolutions. Its central concern is that AI can generate useful judgments from patterns too complex for people to inspect fully, creating a new relationship between human reason and institutional authority. The authors consider major potential benefits, including faster discovery and help with global problems, alongside risks involving autonomy, strategic competition, inequality, and the erosion of a shared basis for truth. Genesis therefore aims to frame AI governance as an urgent political and moral task, not merely an engineering challenge.
