PDA by PDAers: From Anxiety to Avoidance and Masking to Meltdowns is a nonfiction work compiled by Sally Cat, an adult with Pathological Demand Avoidance, and published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. The book examines PDA as a lived neurodevelopmental profile rather than as a detached clinical label. Its distinctive method is collective: it gathers edited discussions from more than 70 adults with PDA and people affected by PDA, largely reflecting the exchanges of an online support community. Rather than presenting a single explanatory theory, the book maps recurring experiences across demand avoidance, anxiety, masking, uncertainty, control, overload, meltdowns, social rules, work, parenting, and accommodations. It also uses accessible visual material, including graphs and memes, to communicate patterns that can be difficult to express in conventional clinical language. The purpose is both explanatory and validating: to help PDAers recognize shared experiences, and to help families, educators, clinicians, and employers understand how ordinary demands can become disabling.
