Platform Strategy: Innovation Through Harmonization is a concise strategy and architecture book by Gregor Hohpe, part of the Architect Elevator series. It addresses a recurring enterprise ambition: creating developer or internal platforms that increase delivery speed, improve consistency, support compliance, and reduce unnecessary cognitive load. Rather than treating a platform as a collection of shared technical services, Hohpe frames it as a strategic mechanism for enabling useful choices within a coherent environment. The book is aimed at IT leaders, enterprise architects, platform teams, and technically engaged decision makers who must connect business goals with implementation tradeoffs. Its purpose is not to prescribe a particular product stack or operating model. Instead, it develops conceptual tools for deciding when platforming is appropriate, what constraints a platform should remove, and what complexity it should retain visibly. Hohpe uses memorable metaphors and decision-oriented reasoning to examine the tension between innovation and standardization, the economics of internal platforms, and the organizational conditions needed for adoption.
