Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs is a major biography of the Apple cofounder, published shortly after Jobs’s death in 2011. Built from more than forty interviews with Jobs and extensive conversations with relatives, collaborators, rivals, and friends, it follows his life from adoption and early experimentation through Apple, NeXT, Pixar, and his return to Apple. Its purpose is not to offer a polished corporate legend or a management manual. Instead, Isaacson examines how an unusually forceful personality shaped products, institutions, and relationships. The book connects Jobs’s interest in design, music, counterculture, and craftsmanship to his insistence that technology should feel intuitive and emotionally resonant. It also gives substantial attention to the costs of that intensity: volatile behavior, control, painful personal conflicts, and a willingness to pressure colleagues beyond reasonable limits. As a result, the biography treats innovation as a collaborative achievement directed by a singular, often difficult, product leader rather than as the work of a lone genius.
