Targeted is a 2019 memoir and whistleblower account by Brittany Kaiser, a former business development director associated with Cambridge Analytica and its parent company, SCL Group. It examines the political data industry through her experience inside a firm that became synonymous with the misuse of personal data and the manipulation of electoral communication. Kaiser traces her path from human rights and progressive political work into commercial political consulting, then recounts her eventual cooperation with journalists and investigators after the Cambridge Analytica scandal emerged. The book focuses on the collection and use of Facebook-derived data, psychological voter profiling, and the delivery of highly tailored political messages during the period surrounding the 2016 United States election and Brexit-related campaigning. Its purpose is both testimonial and argumentative: Kaiser seeks to describe how these practices operated from within while making a case for stronger privacy rights, meaningful consent, transparency in political advertising, and public regulation of data brokerage.
