Diasporas: Concepts, Intersections, Identities, edited by Kim Knott and Seán McLoughlin, is an interdisciplinary academic collection that maps the expanding field of diaspora studies. Rather than treating diaspora as a single historical condition or a fixed type of community, the volume presents it as a concept shaped by migration, memory, ethnicity, nationhood, postcolonial history, transnational networks, and cultural production. Its essays bring together scholars from fields such as sociology, anthropology, religious studies, cultural studies, history, geography, and political science. The book is organized around conceptual foundations, thematic intersections, and selected empirical or metaphorical diasporas, including Jewish, Irish, African American, Zoroastrian, Armenian, Chinese, Muslim, Greek, and other formations. Its purpose is not to offer one definitive theory, but to provide a structured guide to the major debates, vocabularies, and research directions that have made diaspora a central lens for understanding identity and mobility in the modern world.
