iWoz is Steve Wozniak’s 2006 memoir, written with Gina Smith, about the formative experiences and engineering work that led to the Apple I, the Apple II, and the early personal-computer industry. Rather than offering a conventional corporate history, it presents Wozniak’s perspective in brief, conversational episodes that move from childhood experiments with electronics to Apple’s rapid growth and his later activities. Its purpose is partly historical and partly corrective: Wozniak explains his role in designing early Apple machines, distinguishes engineering decisions from business decisions, and addresses public assumptions about his partnership with Steve Jobs. The central subject is not simply Apple’s commercial rise, but the practical pleasure of making things work under technical constraints. Wozniak treats invention as a craft grounded in curiosity, patient problem-solving, and close attention to users. The result is a firsthand account of personal computing from the viewpoint of the engineer most closely associated with the design of Apple’s foundational products.
